Experience

Tom Smith brings 29 years of experience in real estate development, construction, and senior living operations to the team. In 2017, Tom and partner, Justin Brown, founded Grand Contracting, growing it into a $100 million per year construction company.

Prior to 2006, Tom earned a degree in Construction Engineering and Management from Purdue University. His work experience in the following years included a role as Senior Director of Development for Lauth Property Group, where he managed a development portfolio of more than $100 million. Tom also served as Special Projects Director performing construction services in healthcare, office, industrial, and retail market sectors. Prior to Lauth, he worked for R.L. Turner Corporation as a project manager, responsible for construction projects ranging from $2 to $15 million.

In 2006, Tom and partner, Justin Brown, founded Leo Brown Group, a real estate development company. Since the formalization, Leo Brown Group has grown into one of the largest, privately held senior living developers in the Midwest.

In 2006, Tom and partner, Justin Brown, founded Grand Industrial, an industrial construction company specializing in millwright, welding and fabrication services for the food processing, agriculture and steel industries.

In 2012, Tom and partners, Justin Brown and Michael Wagner, started Traditions Management, a senior living management company. Traditions Management has grown to a 1,500-employee strong company providing daily management services to 19 senior living communities throughout the Midwest.

  • Established Grand Industrial in 2006.
  • Grew Grand Industrial into an industrial contracting company with annual revenues of $30 Million.
  • Provides financial oversight and shared strategic direction of the company.

Leo Brown Group – Real Estate Development

  • Established Leo Brown Group in 2006.
  • Provides all aspects of the real estate development process including, but not limited to, proforma creation, land acquisition, land entitlement, site design, building design, leasing, permitting, loan closing coordination, construction, and tenant relations.
  • Manages a senior housing real estate portfolio valued at more than $750 million.
  • Traditions Management – Senior Living Operations
  • Established Traditions Management in 2012.
  • Provides all strategic and financial oversight of Traditions Management.
  • Traditions manages 19 senior living communities and 2 geriatric psychiatric hospitals.

Grand Contracting – Commercial Construction

  • Established Grand Contracting in 2017.
  • Grew Grand Contracting to annual revenues of $100 Million per year.
